In 2022, Heather Pennella, with a local artist, Jennifer Williams-Cordova spearheaded this special mural project to restore this painting on 19th & Eye St. The project transformed the landscape downtown. The original mural was in disrepair, peeling and faded from the elements, and not a good show of a moment in Kern County’s history that served as an economic boost to our region in the 1990s. Heather’s mother and family were directly connected to Christo & Jeanne-Claude and The Umbrellas, as Christina Pennella served as the assistant to the project director. The desire to restore the mural was a dream of Heather’s for many years. We were proud to partner with Heather on updating this artwork!
